An opening and closing in one — the shortest exhibition of the longest painting.
Bornholm Blues – Jiří Boudník (Ina Howard – Family History)
Bornholm Blues is a unified six-panel artwork forming one complete image — a narrative of Ina Howard’s family and life. Each canvas connects to the next, creating a powerful story of heritage, journey, and belonging.
The sky blue and deep sea tones — “Bornholm Blues” — unite two lineages: Viking and Jewish. Both share a history of exploration, voyages into the unknown, resilience, and adaptation. Her ancestors were seafarers and wanderers seeking a harbor to anchor.
That harbor becomes Brooklyn — part of an island and the greater New York City. Ina draws strength from her ancestors, who remain present within her identity. The sextych also features her descendant Arthur.
Sailboats, Viking shields, bagels, harbor cranes, Bornholm Island, waves, challah baking, and a kiss between Ina and her partner Benjamin all merge into one visual narrative.
The work, titled Ina Howard – Family History, will be displayed at Dinah Restaurant on Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn.
